We’re working with Isle’s of Scilly Steamship Group – developing an unmanned freight service to enhance their remote logistics operations.
In June 2020 Flylogix entered into a 2-year development agreement with the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group. The partnership will develop a regular unmanned freight service between Lands End Airport and the Scilly Isles which tackles some of the unique challenges of remote area logistics.
In December, the team delivered a successful demonstration flight from Lands End Airport to St Mary’s Airport and back. This was an industry first for unmanned aviation delivering between two commercial airports. The service carried a box of NHS supplies on its outbound routing and returned with an array of local produce including gin and fresh flowers.
A routine service will be established later in 2021 to further develop this exciting new capability.
Stuart Reid, Chief Executive of ISSG, said
“We’ve shown that a drone freight service is not only technically feasible but that there is demand for its potential to deliver time-sensitive and high value items for the island community”.
He added that the “aircraft have 98% fewer emissions than a manned equivalent”.
”“We are delighted to welcome Flylogix to our innovation sandbox to enable us to work together on this area which has the potential to deliver key benefits to a vital part of the UK’s energy infrastructure.”
